  • The Saudi Petrochemical Company (Sadaf) The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia flared off much of its natural gas produced during the crude oil extraction process until the early 1980. However, the development of the US$12 billion Master Gas Gathering System (MGS), one of the largest engineering projects in the world, provided the foundation for the development of the Kingdom???s multi-billion dollar petrochemical industries. In 1976, the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) was created by the Saudi government. It is in-charge with constructing the Kingdom???s primary industrial base that will utilize the country???s abundant natural oil and gas resources. SABIC later entered into a negotiation with qualified international oil and gas companies, one of which was Pecten Arabian Company, an affiliate of the Shell Oil Company.
